Living & Working in Dublin

Coming to live and work in the capital can be a big step. To help you find your feet, we’ve put together some basic information so you can find your way around the city and familiarise yourself with the unique character of the city.

Dublin and the neighbourhood of Tallaght offers a variety of cultural, sporting, educational and social opportunities. Whatever your interests, the arts, culture, explorer, sportsperson, history buff, or socialite, the city and district of Tallaght has something to offer everyone.

Getting Your Bearings

Tallaght is based in the West of Dublin with good public transport connections including an over ground tram station (Luas) within short walking distance as well as numerous bus routes that run directly outside the Hospital. It is an area rich in history with urban parks, rivers and streams you can view the area via this short film which captures its 4,000 year history. 

It’s generally cheaper to live in Tallaght than the main city centre, streets are little quieter, but the hospital is still only 20-30 minutes from the major attractions and nightlife of the capital

Where to live

Many of our staff live in Tallaght and there are a number of popular areas nearby including, Clondalkin, Templeogue, Terenure, Knocklyon, Firhouse, and Rathfarnham. But with our good public transport links there are a wide range of options when deciding where to live.

Entertainment

Dublin has a vibrant nightlife. Dublin boasts a wide range of entertainment venues including 3 Arena, National Concert Hall many Theatres and clubs. Sport stadiums including Croke Park and Aviva Stadium, there is also the Tallaght Stadium within walking distance to the Hospital where the local team Shamrock Rovers are based.

Shopping

The city has numerous shopping districts. The city centre shopping districts take in Grafton Street and Henry Street. Suburban Dublin has several modern retail centres including, The Square Tallaght, Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, Dundrum Shopping Centre and Blanchardstown Shopping Centre.

A cosmopolitan city with a multitude of attractions and a fascinating history. Some recommended places to visit include Dublin Zoo, Dublin Castle, Guinness Storehouse, National Museum of Ireland, Pheonix Park the largest park in a city in Europe, Trinity College, and Temple Bar District.
