AchievementsProf Richard Deane is a highly trained consultant gynaecologist with special interests in ambulatory gynaecology, medical gynaecology / complex contraception and medical education. He completed the Irish Higher Specialist Training Scheme in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. To enhance his training, he completed two UK-based fellowships in ambulatory gynaecology, gynaecological ultrasound and gynaecological endoscopic surgery (at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust) and in sexual and reproductive health (at NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde). He is highly proficient in the management of common gynaecological conditions and emergencies and performs a wide range of gynaecological surgical procedures. As part of providing ambulatory care for his patients, he routinely undertakes hysteroscopy (diagnostic and therapeutic), gynaecological ultrasound and colposcopy in an outpatient “one-stop” clinic setting. He is an accomplished academic consultant and has completed research degrees in medical education (MD degree) and leadership in health professions education (MSc). He has undertaken many academic roles including chairing the St. James’s Hospital & Tallaght University Hospital Research Ethics Committee for three years and leading the undergraduate programme in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Trinity College for eight years. He is currently the Director of Undergraduate Teaching & Learning for the School of Medicine at Trinity College. He is an experienced researcher within the field of medical education research numerous peer-reviewed, high impact publications. Prof Deane is a highly experienced gynaecologist who provides patient-centred care in an environment of clinical excellence with the goal of supporting and enabling patients make their own choices about their care. |
