I develop and manage the medical teaching and the Clinical Service programmes on the Tallaght University Hospital campus. These ensure that doctors and nurses at all levels, are trained and enabled to provide the best possible care to patients with respiratory diseases such as Pneumonia, Lung Cancer, Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

In addition, I lead a clinical research group of 15 scientists in a quest to discover new treatments for patients with lung diseases. This group includes scientists from the Tallaght University Hospital campus, the Trinity Biomedical Science Institute and the Trinity Translational Medicine Institute

I have worked for over 20 years in General & Respiratory Medicine, both within Ireland, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Achievements

Internationally recognised as an authority on Pulmonary Fibrosis.
2015: Established Ireland’s first National Pulmonary Fibrosis Referral Centre at Trinity College & Tallaght University Hospital. This is a state-of-the art multidisciplinary Advanced Medical Service which provides care for patients with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
2014: Awarded an Honorary Professorship from the University of Edinburgh for International Leadership in Translational Medicine.
