Education & ExperienceProfessor Maher is a Consultant Cardiologist at Tallaght University Hospital. He is a Clinical Associate Professor in Trinity College Dublin and Director of Chronic Cardiovascular Disease and Cardiac Rehabilitation at Tallaght University Hospital. He formally worked as a Senior Registrar in Cardiology at the Hammersmith Hospital London and was Assistant Professor at the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. He was Medical Director of the Irish Heart Foundation and has a long term interest in reversing and preventing heart disease. He was President of the Irish Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation, President of the Irish Atherosclerosis Society, and Chairman of the Health Promoting Hospital Network in Ireland. He co-founded the Heart Watch program and developed both the Irish Heart Foundation, Physical Activity and Nutrition guidelines. Since 2004, he has been the Cardiology advisor to the FAI. His research interests involve understanding the effects of exercise, lipids and obesity on cardiovascular change. |
