The Radiology Department in Tallaght University Hospital provides a comprehensive adult inpatient and outpatient diagnostic imaging service to local and regional patients. This includes imaging modalities such as General Radiology, Ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT), Nuclear Medicine - diagnostic, and fluoroscopy. The Department also provides a comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic Interventional Radiology Service. In addition to this the department supports services to the Emergency Department, Theatre & Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Catherisation Laboratory, Speech Therapy and Endoscopy.
The service is provided by a multidisciplinary team of Radiologists, Radiographers, Nursing staff, Physicists, Clerical Staff and Porters. This team works collectively to provide quality patient healthcare with an excess of 160,000 examinations carried out each year.
As part of the educational opportunities that make Tallaght a teaching Hospital, the department has close links with Trinity College, University College Dublin and the Royal College of Surgeons to facilitate clinical placements in Radiology & Radiography. The department also has a strong research tradition, and is currently involved in many clinical trials and research projects.
The department uses an information technology system called NIMIS. This system links the department to Hospitals across the country, allowing clinicians to share patient’s images to enhance patient care.
