CHI (Children’s Health Ireland) statement in view of impending Irish Nurses & Midwives Organisation (INMO) Industrial Action

(January 23rd 2019) As we know the HSE has received notice of strike action from the INMO and plans to hold the first in a series of 24-hour strikes next Wednesday 30th January. The HSE is currently in negotiations with the INMO to secure the safest possible level of cover in healthcare services on that day.

However this impending industrial action is likely to have significant impact on the services across the three children’s hospitals in CHI (Children’s Health Ireland), formerly CHG (Children’s Hospital Group), which includes the hospitals at Crumlin, Temple Street and Tallaght whereby the hospitals will be providing emergency services only.

Each hospital in CHI is currently establishing the number of patients who will likely be impacted by the industrial action next week with a focus on those patients due for admission or to attend an OPD appointment on Wed 30th January. We have also begun the process of contacting parents over the remainder of this week in order to inform them of postponements of in-patient admissions and OPD appointments.

CHI will endeavour to reschedule in-patient admissions and OPD appointments as soon as it can and it will ensure that all patients are kept informed.

We also advise parents due to attend one of our three hospitals on Wed 30th January to pay close attention to national and local media outlets for further updates.
