(September 18th 2025) Tallaght University Hospital (TUH), one of Ireland’s busiest and most innovative teaching hospitals, has today launched its new Strategic Plan for 2025–2029. The strategy sets a bold course for the future, built around a single, powerful mission: to deliver innovative, patient-centred care that continuously anticipates and adapts to meet the evolving needs of our community.
The plan comes at an important time for healthcare in Ireland, as demographics change, growing patient complexity, and a changing national health agenda. The TUH catchment population is expected to reach one million by 2030, up from 800,000 in 2024, with West Dublin among the fastest-growing regions in the country.
“This strategy is about future-proofing care,” said Professor Anne Marie Brady, Chairperson of the TUH Board. “Our population is growing, ageing, and presenting with more complex conditions. Meeting this challenge requires not just more resources, but smarter, more integrated ways of working. This plan is our blueprint for delivering that.”
The TUH Strategic Plan 2025–2029 outlines key priorities to improve outcomes and equity of access while safeguarding long-term financial and environmental sustainability. It is informed by the latest Health Assets & Needs Assessment (HANA) and aligns closely with national Sláintecare reforms.
Highlights of the plan include:
- Expansion of bed and workforce capacity to meet rising demand
- Investment in integrated community care through partnership with Integrated Health Areas (IHAs)
- Initiatives to enhance digital health, innovation, and sustainability
- Commitment to fair, timely and compassionate care for every patient
As a voluntary hospital, TUH remains committed to autonomy while working collaboratively across the healthcare system. This strategy reflects that balance, anchored in local accountability, driven by national alignment and guided by the voices of patients and staff.
Commenting on the Strategy at the launch Ms. Kate Killeen White, Regional Executive Officer of the HSE Dublin & Midlands “I am honoured to be invited to launch this visionary hospital strategy. It reflects a deep commitment to excellence in care and a clear understanding of the evolving needs of our communities. I warmly congratulate the team behind this initiative and look forward to supporting its realisation, knowing it will serve the people of Dublin and the Midlands with compassion, innovation and impact.”
“With this new strategy, we reaffirm our commitment to every patient who walks through our doors,” added Barbara Keogh Dunne, CEO of TUH. “Together, we will build a future-ready health service that is caring, connected and resilient.”
